Event description

Description

A walk to introduce you to Berthold Lubetkin, the Bolshevik Modernist architect who "brought modern architecture to England". with his practice, Tecton,

See and hear about the buildings commissioned from Tecton by Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury.

Understand and admire how Lubetkin's dictum "Nothing is too good for ordinary people" was realised in form and function in the Finsbury Health Centre.

See how slum housing was replaced to provide modern, airy homes. With privileged access to the lobby of Bevin Court, marvel as the spectacular staircase dances skyward".

This 1½-2 hour walk south from the Angel and back towards Pentonville Road will put the impact of Lubetkin in the context of the history of the development of N Clerkenwell. It will also reveal how Lubetkin tried to commemorate the association Vladimir Illich Lenin had with the area.

This walk was originally developed to celebrate the restoration of Peter Yates' mural in the lobby of Bevin Court. See "https://bevincourt.wordpress.com/" for more information.
