Event description

Description

Join talented knitting tutor Judith Schur* for a wonderful workshop learning Modular and Entrelac knitting.

Both Modular and Entrelac knitting give the effect of a knitted patchwork.

Modular knitting involves making inividual units and joining them together by picking up stitches along one edge of another unit.

Entrelac knitting creates lots of blocks looking like interwoven diamonds which are joined together as you knit. These techniques, once mastered, produce finished items which will astound all your friends (knitters or non-knitters).

You will need to be able to do both knit and purl stitch confidently to fully enjoy the workshop.

One word of warning - this can become addictive!

During the workshop we will explore knitting simple modules and joining them together and we will practise the techniques needed for Entrelac knitting.

You can then choose to knit one of three cowls Judith has designed using either Modular or Entrelac knitting.

You will receive a kit (choice of colourways) containing enough West Yorkshire Spinners sock yarn to make one cowl, along with the three patterns.

You will need 3.25mm (plus 3mm needles for edging) needles for .the cowl and a selection of needles to use on the practice pieces (3.25mm, 3.5mm, 4mm, 4.5mm and 5mm would be a good selection to bring along with you to the class)

Yarn is provided but, as above, you will need to bring a selection of knitting needles with you. If you would like to buy some or all of your needles from our shop, please let us know in advance so we can ensure we have enough sizes in stock.

(*Judith has been knitting since she was taught by her Grandma at ten years old. She ran a lovely yarn and haberdashery shop in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire for 6 years and loved sharing knowledge and skills there, which led her to develop a brilliant workshop programme. She has a City and Guilds qualification in Hand Knitting and Design and loves to design her own knitting patterns and share her love of and joy in knitting).

Skill Level: You will need to be a confident basic knitter (being able to do both purl and knit stitch is essential)

Cost: £55 per person, includes West Yorkshire Spinners yarn and cowl patterns. Please bring your own knitting needles or buy these from the shop (as stated above). Complimentary tea, coffee and biscuits provided.
