Welcome to the Annual Moffat MRT Charity Challenge 2024.

It's that time again, the annual Moffat MRT Charity Challenge!

Join the team for a fun day in the Moffat Hills, with 4 walks to choose from there is something for all abilities, and even the smallest of munro baggers!

This is a great opportunity to get out in the hills and enjoy all that Moffat has to offer. We know that budgets are stretched and so once again we have made no increase to entry prices and kept our family ticket which offers superb value for money...

Did we mention that every participant gets a limited edition 2024 Charity Challenge T-Shirt and a burger at the end of the walk?

Of course Moffat MRT is a charity and relies on the generosity of the public to keep running. Therefore we encourage those people that are able to consider further fundraising in the form of sponsorship to help the team (please note irrespective of fundraising activity all participants must still purchase an entry ticket).

We look forward to seeing you on the day...and thank you in advance.

Charity Challenge 2024 - Walk 1

Estimate 3-4 km, Time 2-4 hours

This will be a guided walk into Carrifran Wildwood. Until 2000 the glen was almost devoid of trees. Since then 750,000 trees have been planted to create an eco-system that may look like it was 6000 years ago, leading to it now being a more attractive habitat for a range of mammals, birds and insects. You can visit the bothy shelter a few kilometres up the Glen.

Charity Challenge 2024 - Walk 2

Estimate 7km with 360 metres of ascent- Time 2.5-3.5 hours

The walk starts at Sailfoot and follows forestry tracks through the commercial forestry up the slopes of Sailfoot Law. You will reach your high point at nearly 500 metres where you should have fine views towards Hartfell and White Coomb on the other side of Moffat Dale. You now cross the Sailfoot Burn and take more tracks down towards Selcoth Farm and then back to your starting point.

Then start climbing open ground north of the Selcoth Burn over one minor top before a climb onto the top of Capel Fell. At 678 metres this is your high point of the day and the summit is one of the listed “Donalds”. Descend to Ettrick Head and follow the Southern Upland way NE past Over Phawhope bothy to Potburn. Leave the SUW and turn left (NW) climbing up onto high ground before your final descent to the road at Bodesbeck. Use paths through the fields to return to the start at Sailfoot
