Event description

Description

This Grade I listed Georgian house, built in the early 18th century, was substantially redesigned and extended by Sir John Soane for Sir Godfrey Thornton in 1791. Soane made further alterations and extensions in the early nineteenth century, including the creation of stables and a kitchen block. The restoration of the interior to the original Soane designs began in 1997 and the house is now recognised as the most complete surviving example of his work. The visit will include a tour of the house and an opportunity to enjoy the gardens and woodlands landscaped by Humphry Repton.

Tea/coffee and scones will be served at the end of the tour.
