Event description

Description

Having recently re-joined The Cavendish School, (I first attended as a student over 50 years ago), I'm studying to be a fully qualified teacher in the School's Science Faculty. I'm running this event to raise money to refurbish the equipment students are using to learn science. (I recognise some of the kit from all those years ago!)

With the School's permission on the 20th October this year we will be running a Mole Day celebration in the main hall where students will demonstrate weird and wonderful science. If you would like to join us - please buy your tickets on this website. The price per adult is £6.02; under 18s are free.

If you cannot make it I hope you will consider making a donation to our worthy cause. Any donations, large or small, will be welcome Thank you in anticipation.

So why £6.02? Well Mole Day celebrates the work of Italian scientist Amadeus Avogadro who, over 200 years ago now, helped the understanding at that time as to how gases behave. His hypothesis was that equal volumes of different gases contain an equal number of molecules, provided they are at the same temperature and pressure. That number is a constant and it is 6.02 times 10 to the power of 23. Mole Day is therefore celebrated on 23rd October commencing at 6.02 a.m.

This year because of half term we are bringing our event forward to the 20th October and the doors will open at 6.02 p.m.

All monies raised will be spent on improving the equipment in the Science Laboratories.
