About this Event

London Metropolitan Archives will be hosting the Mollie Hunte conference entitled ‘Mollie Hunte: Educator, Psychologist and Champion of Caribbean People’. This event will celebrate Mollie Hunte (1932-2015) who was an educational psychologist from Georgetown, Guyana who advocating heavily for her community. Join us in celebration of the collection which is housed at the London Metropolitan Archives and the importance of her records being available to the general public

Mollie decided to immigrate to the UK in 1961 and came to the UK to continue her studies and become an educational psychologist working specifically with young black children. As an educational psychologist she worked for both the London Borough of Ealing (1973-82) and the London Borough of Brent (1982-1988). During this time, she founded and co-founded several key organisations for the Caribbean community which included:

The Caribbean Parents Group (1975), The Caribbean Parents Group Credit Union (1990) and PEV consultancy (1989). Each of these organisations were created to aid the Caribbean community in London and ensure that young children and parents were supported through the education system, mental health and parenting.
