About this event

Every Monday evening, the community centre is staffed by the library team from 5:30-8:30pm for a free, friendly drop-in. Library membership is open to all, no ID is required to join and we never charge a fee or a fine.

Our collection of approximately 500 queer-centric titles is playfully organised around the meaning of the original pride flag colours, such as Red for Life (biographies, memoirs and queer histories) and Yellow for Sunlight (joy, celebration and stories with happy endings). We encourage browsing and serendipity. You can see our catalogue here: book28library.libib.com

We also offer optional activities weekly such as zine-making, writing workshops and book club. Please check our social media for information about upcoming events. Alternatively, just come read in our quiet room or drop by to return or borrow books. All visitors can access free WiFi, a computer, sockets to charge devices, hot drinks, snacks, a shower and an accessible toilet.

Please check this link for info on visiting the centre for the first time book28.weebly.com/visit-us.htmlAccess is via an audio-visual intercom at street level, and then down to the centre via a lift, stars, or ramp system. Anyone with access queries is welcome to email book28.library@gmail.com.

Frequently asked questions

What ID do I need to join the library?

You do not need any ID. We ask that you give us a name to use for you and a way to contact you, preferably by email, to remind you to bring your book back. If you are under 16, please come with a trusted adult who can help you manage your account.

What time should I arrive?

Monday evenings are drop-in, you can arrive anytime between 5:30pm and 8:30pm, and stay for as long or as short as you like.

I want to return a book I borrowed but can't come back on a Monday, when can I return it?

You can return a book anytime when using the centre by placing it in the labelled pink metal tin beside the desk. We will run it through our system next time we're in.

My dog/hamster/axolotl ate my library book, what should I do?

Accidents happen! If a book has become lost or destroyed, we just ask that you tell us so we can purchase a replacement.

I've seen on social media that you're hosting an event this Monday. Can I just use the library?

Yes, the library is open for reading, browsing, borrowing and returning every Monday regardless of other events. The space is split up so our events are always optional and you're always welcome to simply read in a different part of the venue.

I need an Oyster top-up to be able to afford my travel, can you help me?

Unfortunately, we cannot currently top-up or refund people's TFL journeys to our Monday sessions. Visitors to the Outside Project on Tuesday mornings (Cafe Queero) or Saturday afternoons (Open House) can receive a refund. You can browse the library during Cafe Queero and borrow books at Open House.

I have a question about homelessness, can you help me?

We do not have specialist housing staff on site at our Monday evening sessions. We will always be happy to offer a listening ear, hot drinks and shower access, but cannot help you with a housing issue. We recommend coming to Cafe Queero or Open House to speak to Outside Project staff directly.
