About this event

Arts • Fine Art

We are a friendly online group making art alongside each other on Monday evenings from 7pm till 8.30pm. Adults of all skill levels are welcome. You just need some art materials and a willingness to have a go. Members have joined from the UK, America and Europe. Some come when they can, others attend regularly.

What we offer:

  • A short drawing exercise to warm us up.
  • A different theme each fortnight chosen by the group. You will be sent a link to a Pinterest board with images for inspiration.
  • The opportunity to work on your own projects.
  • Encouragement and inspiration to develop your creative style.
  • Music to listen to while we make. I compile and share a weekly playlist from the groups requests.
  • Opportunities to share your work and get feedback within the session and through the WhatsApp group.

What it costs:

The first session is £8 and bought through Eventbrite. If you enjoy being part of the group, you can buy a block of sessions directly from the teacher to be used as you attend. To make art accessible there is a tiered pricing system dependent on income. The costs per session are below.

£12 Standard Cost.

£8 Low Income (For people who are living on a low income).

When is it?

The autumn term runs from 8th September till 15th December. You can join at any point in the term and just pay for the sessions you attend.

"I could make art every night on my own, but I just don't. Knowing that we are meeting focuses my mind and I am engrossed for an hour and a half. Each week I now make at least two pieces of artwork, and I have met some great people and been inspired to try out new materials and styles."

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to come every week?

No, you come when you want to and just pay for the sessions you attend. The group runs during term time. The first session is £8 and is booked via Eventbrite. After that people pay the artist directly for a block of sessions which are used as they attend.

How much experience of art making do I need to have?

The group is open to adults of all abilities. I will send a link to a Pinterest board for each theme. This will show examples of different art styles and photos which can be used as a reference. People choose what they will do in the session and work at their own pace.

What is the structure of the session?

There are three blocks of art making. We start with a drawing exercise, then have two half-hour periods of making. In between these, and at the end, we show what we have made and get supportive feedback. We finish by deciding the next theme and people can suggest music for the playlist.

What art materials can I use?

You can use whatever materials you want. In the past people have painted, drawn, collaged, made digital art and done print-making. It is best to decide what you will do and set yourself up before the session so you have more time to make .

What themes do you do?

We move between still life, landscape and portrait/people themes. We also do seasonal themes and conceptual themes. The aim is to build up skills across a range of subject maters. There is also the option to just get on with you own project with support from the group.

Who runs the sessions?

I am Amy Powell and have run online art groups since 2020. I facilitate learning environments where people can feel safe and happy so they can try new things and develop at their own pace. My sessions are designed to be supportive and inclusive to encourage creative freedom and increase wellbeing.
