Description

A presentation by Rob Macquarie of Positive Money

"We can't afford it!" is the clarion call of ministers to each and every request for funding. But can we afford not to afford it when it comes to climate change?
Those same ministers ask us what kind of financial legacy we shall leave our grandchildren if we borrow. So what kind of legacy is an atmosphere in which they can't breathe? Indeed, do we really have to borrow to afford to look after the environment? Or any of several other socially desirable targets for that matter?

Rob Macquarie is a bright young economist who has done a significant amount of research into how to finance our environmental objectives. He has been recruited by Positive Money to tell us all about it and now we have the opportunity to meet him directly.

Rob will give a plain language introduction to what he and the Positive Money Team have been doing on this topic to date and lead us into an open discussion. Our debates can get very engrossing and it is easy to forget your original question, so please write one or more down to bring with you if possible.

Rachel Oliver, Positive Money's Lead Organiser, will also be with us this evening. Rachel's role is to assist Positive Money's supporters and to help and advise the core teams of local groups. She will be available to answer any questions you may have about the organisation and how you may be able to help it reach its objectives.
