Outline of the Day

This skills sharing day covers documentation, display and education, storage and conservation of numismatic collections, led by staff from the British Museum. T

The day is aimed for those in the museum and heritage sector working or volunteering in the care of numismatic materials.

Important Note: The training is only available to people already working in museums. 

This skills sharing session is part of the British Museum’s National Partnerships skills sharing activity, and has been made possible through the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

10:00 – 10:30 The Money and Medals Network: Recent work and future plans

10:30 – 11:00 Cataloguing coins, banknotes and medals on a museum database

11:30 – 13:00 Practical Session: pinning techniques

Introduction to British Museum object pinning techniques including a practical demonstration and a chance to practice these skills.  Led by Henry Flynn

14:00 – 14:30 The Citi Money Gallery: display, interpretation and education

This programme of talks is inspired by that offered by the Arts Council England supported Money and Medals Network.

Travel bursary: There are a number of travel bursaries available for each skills sharing session.  If you wish to apply please complete the relevant section on the booking form on registering and email UKPartnerships@britishmuseum.org.

Bursaries are subject to availability and must be requested as soon as possible but no later than 2 weeks before the date of the session.
