About this event
This session is part of the West Midlands Violence Reduction Unit’s regional County Lines Awareness training programme which aims to develop and improve our understanding of the threat from County Lines and Criminal Exploitation.
Working with Bonanza Creative, the Economic Crime Unit Fraud & Cyber Protect team have developed an educational package and film about Money Mules to help educate and raise awareness around this increasing issue. This briefing will be delivered by Khatija Nichols - Economic Crime Unit Fraud & Cyber Protect Coordinator for West Midlands Police on the Money Muling Project.
Criminals are recruiting a rising number of teenagers to act as Money Mules to help them launder the proceeds of crime. The number of cases of 14-18 year olds, who have allowed their bank accounts to be used to divert funds, has grown by 73% in the last 2 years.
The briefing aims to increase awareness and empower teenagers to make informed decisions and urge parents and guardians to warn their children about the dangers of becoming a money mule, arming them with a full understanding of Money Muling, the criminals behind it and the potential long-term implications.
Target audience: Parents/Carers/Young People
