Embroidery is a craft skill that has been an integral part of the tailoring, fashion and interiors industries since their inception. Usually used to denote status and wealth, it has been painstakingly produced by artisans for royals, dignitaries and fashion on a global scale for many years. There are innumerable techniques, but one that has been popular and even practical within the tailoring, fashion and interiors industries has been monogram embroidery.
Originally coined to differentiate shirts, jackets and bedlinen from others, the history of embroidering one’s initials onto expensive and often bespoke items is still popular today. Scripted monograms for linens or slippers and delicate letters on shirts and hankies offer the final touches to a special piece, and monogram embroidery is a thoughtful way to personalise special gifts.
