About this event
In this unique experimental workshop we will be using monotype printmaking to help us experiment with image making, colour and markmaking. Although we will all begin from the same starting point you will be encouraged to bring their your own ideas and references into the process to develop practical outcomes. Throughout the workshop, we will explore the monoprint processes of trace, addition, and subtraction, introducing collage and mixed media into our prints. Over the weekend you'll create both quick sketches and more detailed, sustained pieces with plenty of individual guidance from Sophie. Suitable for people with some drawing experience this course is ideal if you are looking to expand your drawing or painting practice into the realm of printmaking, providing plenty of experimental and inspirational processes to take away.
What to Expect
Day One: We will start the day drawing from film, making a series of coloured monoprints from these drawings in the afternoon. Contextual reference will be shown throughout the weekend in the form of slide presentations and books.
Day Two: Building on what we learnt on the first day, students will be encouraged to use broader and more experimental approaches and encouraged to bring in their own reference to use alongside the workshop work.
What to Bring
All materials will be provided. You will need to bring:
- A sketchbook for note taking
- Apron & clothes suitable for printing
- Any additional drawing materials you enjoy using
- Reference photos and drawings to use on the second day. Sophie suggests you bring some reference imagery that relates to your own practice or personal ideas - this could be drawings, photographs or even other artists images.
