About this event

In this the fifth in my series of creative workshops at Priorwood, we'll be exploring a simple technique of trace monotype, sometimes known as offset drawing. This is a wonderfully effective way of combining drawing and printmaking without a press. Find inspiration in the flowers and foliage of this National Trust for Scotland garden in Melrose––in late Summer, the walled garden is full of colour and interesting forms, the apples are ripening on the trees. Learn something new in the quiet of this abundant garden.

Jules will introduce you to the process and the endless variations you can explore with monotype. The emphasis will be on playful experimentation to look at what this medium can do.

This workshop is for anyone keen to learn and explore a basic low-tech printmaking/drawing technique, whether experienced or a beginner. The aim is give you time and confidence to experiment, with inspiration at your fingertips! Everyone will come away with a small set of unique prints.

Jules is highly experienced in running workshops for all and will share her techniques and ideas to help you look afresh and think in new ways.

Creative workshops across the Scottish Borders

In the warmer months, Jules runs drawing sessions outside, together with mark-making and experimental printmaking workshops in venues across the region throughout the year.

It's all about taking the time and space to look closely. The painter Georgia O’Keeffe stated:

"Nobody really sees a flower...really...it is so small...we haven't time...and to see takes time.."

Experience a different way to relax when you take time to draw or create something. Discovering new ways of seeing can brighten the mind!

"I did so enjoy your workshop. It was a lovely group and the beautiful garden together with your coaching and guidance throughout the day was the perfect combination to encourage our creativity. A truly lovely day." JM, participant in an 'Abundant Colour' workshop
