About this course

Join us for this fantastic 3 hour short course on Monotype Portraiture. Develop a variety of monotype techniques, whilst creating expressive portraits.

Learn trace, light field, and dark field techniques to create expressive, unique portrait prints.

Using the professional quality equipment and materials at Carousel Print Studio, participants will leave with their own original artworks.

This is a relaxed and accessible course suitable for beginners as well as those who would like to develop their printmaking and portrait painting/ drawing skills. Though drawing skills are not necessary to enjoy this workshop.

What will I need to bring?

All materials and equipment will be provided. Though feel free to bring along some reference material such as a newspaper or magazine cutting or photographs.

Please wear old clothes as printing can get messy. Aprons are provided.

Teas, coffee and biscuits provided.

About Carousel Print Studio

Carousel Print Studio is a not for profit charity based on the ground floor of Yorkshire Artspace, Exchange Place Studios in Castlegate, Sheffield. Carousel provides educational workshops in printmaking and opportunities for creatives in Sheffield, in a bright, warm, accessible and well equipped printmaking studio.

Carousel is located on the ground floor just to the left of reception. The doors are widened for ease of access and there is an accessible toilet. If you have any questions regarding access needs please do contact us at print@carouselprintstudio.com

About the tutor

Jim McElvaney is a Sheffield based portrait artist working in paint, drawing and print. Mono printing has become a prominent part of Jim’s practice over the last few years. He’s been recognised with an honorable mention at the 2021 Awagami International Print Exhibition in Japan, selected for the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair’s Curated Exhibition in 2022 and featured in the renowned print making magazine Pressing Matters.
