We’re bringing communities together to listen, reflect, and inspire change — because only by sharing our stories and standing united can we build a stronger, more inclusive Birmingham.
The racist riots that shook our city in August 2024 left real scars: fear and uncertainty among migrant communities, a rise in hate incidents, and a deeper sense of division that many still feel today. These moments didn’t just affect individuals; they rippled through families, neighbourhoods, and entire communities, leaving many people feeling isolated, unwelcome, and unheard.
Now more than ever, it’s vital that we come together — across cultures, backgrounds, and faiths — to share how those events have shaped our lives, acknowledge the pain they caused, and show each other that no one faces this alone. We believe that by opening these conversations, we can start to heal, to challenge hate and prejudice, and to build new bridges of understanding and trust.
This month, we especially welcome community leaders and members from other migrant and faith communities who were directly or indirectly affected by the riots. Together with the Central and Eastern European community, we hope to find ways to support each other, learn from each other’s experiences, and stand in solidarity against racism and division. Because we are all “under the same sky,” and our shared hope for a kinder, safer Birmingham depends on us working together.
If you’d like to ask anything, get involved, or share your story as a speaker, please email us at community@centrala-space.org.uk.
We look forward to welcoming you, hearing your voice, and building a stronger, united community — together.
