The system of private property in the UK sucks: Rents are suffocating, landlords are profit sucking vampires, house prices are astronomic.
Housing co-operatives offer potential solutions to these problems. They are a type of rented housing where there are no landlords, tenants control the rents, and the house is removed from the speculative housing market forever.
Setting them up can be a challenge - as with doing anything that is not the mainstream norm there are a lot of things to learn and work out during the process. Wherever you are in that process (between “this idea seems neat, I want to learn more” to “I’ve been doing this for decades and I want to help out the newbies”) come along to this regular event to chat about housing co-ops.
Current Facilitator
Danny Garside is a part of a group trying to start a housing co-op in North East London (provisionally called “Perennial Housing Co-op”), a member of the Radical Routes digital and finance working groups, and an all-round co-op nerd who wants to see more (housing) co-ops come into existence.
Feel free to get in contact with Danny for any additional information about the event atdannygarside@outlook.com or +447588452204.
