Event description
A monthly online drop in for men and women aged 25+ who recognise autistic traits within themselves, whether formally or self diagnosed.

About this event

The group is part psychoeducation, but mainly sharing and supportive, in a friendly environment. Each month, we address a different topic that I notice regularly comes up in my client work and also personal experience. (I, too, have autistic traits.)

See below for the schedule of topics, which is updated monthly. Please note that the maximum number of participants per group is 15. We meet online the first Friday of the month from 7.45-9pm.

Due to high demand, I will be starting a similar group for young people aged 15-24 on the first Wednesday of the month, beginning the 6th October '21. Details will follow. Email if you would like to be kept informed of the group's development.

4th June 2021 : We start with the important topic of Self Care - being able to recognise our unusually high tolerance of adverse events, which can unfortunately lead to overwhelm and even burnout, and the importance of making time for the all-important fun and relaxation

2nd July 2021: Diagnosis - is formal diagnosis necessary and/ or helpful? Who do we tell that we have autistic traits, and what might be the consequences?

6th August 2021: Tolerating other people's emotions - when we work so hard for things to be 'right', it can be very difficult when someone we care for, or someone we don't even know, seems distressed or angry, or any other 'negative' emotion. This meeting addresses how to manage our overwhelming feelings of responsibility to make others feel better, which is actually hard work and often unnecessary .

3rd September 2021: Going to extraordinary lengths: with our natural inclination to do our very best in our various roles - partner, parent, student, worker - we can often excel in our studies and/or work, but at what cost? This meeting will address how to implement appropriate boundaries so that we do not drive ourselves too hard, but are still able to maintain the high standards we aspire to.
