This month’s talk is presented in partnership with HOUSE festival 2014 and as part of the Brighton Festival programme.
Lighthouse and HOUSE present an in-conversation between commissioned artist, critical designer and futurist Tobias Revell and designer, filmmaker Anab Jain (Superflux). Tobias and Anab will be delving into the themes explored in Tobias’ new film work The Monopoly of Legitimate Use co-commissioned by HOUSE and Lighthouse as part of HOUSE 2014: Migration, Refuge and Territory. The work will be exhibited at Lighthouse from 3 - 25 May 2014.
About the speakers:
*Tobias Revell* is a critical designer and futurist talking and exhibiting worldwide, a lecturer at the Royal College of Art and the London College of Communication, a senior associate at design studio Superflux and a researcher with Arup’s Foresight group. His practice looks at alternative narratives for technologies and changes in contemporary society. He has exhibited at Ars Electronica, the Science Gallery in Dublin, Z33 in Hasselt, Belgium, the Milan Design Week and HMKV Dortmund.
*Anab Jain* is a designer, filmmaker, founder and director of the London-and-India-based design studio Superflux, which runs in partnership with Jon Ardern. The studio consistently produces inventive and critical work exploring the limits of emerging technologies and their implications on society and culture. Recent work by the Superflux studio includes the design of prosthetic vision for the visually impaired, alternate autonomous weather systems, ecological domestic robots, large-scale devices visualizing quantum computing, pirate networks for autonomous UAVs, speculative narratives investigating illegal markets for synthetic biology and community-enabling services for urban India.
