About this event

Monthly volunteers workday

Welcome to our Monthly Workday!

Join us and get stuck into making a difference in the park.

Please read all information before booking

Our group of enthusiastic volunteers works to maintain and improve the park. If you'd like to lend a hand please sign up to join in, no previous experience is necessary.

What we'll be doing:

Throughout the year local volunteers carry out all sorts of activities in the park.

To improve our spaces for local wildlife we carry out jobs like:

  • Managing areas of woodland and wildflower mini-meadows
  • Planting and caring for new trees, shrubs, bulbs and flowers
  • Constructing habitat for all sorts of local wildlife in the park

We also try and make the park nicer for the local community, by doing things like:

  • Clearing litter
  • Tending to the community orchard
  • Organising an annual Open Day each May, with a plant sale and fun activities for children and adults.

Booking a place:

Sessions are open for anyone to drop-in on the day.

Although booking isn’t neccesary it’s still helpful for us to know how many people to expect, to ensure we have enough tools and equipment on site, and to enable us to plan activities.

Who should volunteer:

Volunteers of all ages are welcome, but we do ask that children are accompanied by an adult.

Please don't attend volunteer sessions if you or any members of your household are unwell.

What to bring:

Bring your own work or gardening gloves if you have these.

We have tea and biscuits together at the end of each session, but please bring along your own water if it's a hot day.

Wear appropriate footwear and clothing for the conditions, weather, and planned activity. This will usually be sturdy shoes, ideally with trousers & long sleeves (to avoid stings, cuts and grazes from things like nettles and brambles).

On the day:

Please arrive for the start of the volunteer session at the meeting point in the 'Glade'. The Google map coordinates for the Glade are: https://maps.google.com/?cid=8309581651352566407&entry=gps&g_st=ac

Before starting work a member of the team will give a short welcome, outlining activities we'll be carrying out and how to use tools safely.

We usually finish the work session at midday and return to the Glade for tea and biscuits together. You are of course welcome to join us for as long or short an amount of time as you'd like.

If you have any questions about volunteering with us please do get in touch: friendsofsouthnorwoodlakes@gmail.com
