Event description

Description

St Michael's Hospice Moonlight and Memories Walk is a sponsored 10k coastal walk by the light of a full moon, from The White Rock Hotel along to Galley Hill and back again. Perfect for all the family to enjoy* (even your four-legged friends).

Write memories of your loved ones on a ribbon (provided by the Hospice - please write on your ribbons in Biro - other pens will bleed) and tie it to our 'memory wall' at Hastings Pier as a dedication to them. The ribbons will then stay on the 'memory wall' for one month.

Water and snacks are provided at the half way point and a lovely post walk supper is available for you to enjoy after the walk at The White Rock Hotel.

Please note that the walk starts at 9pm, however registration opens at 8pm - all walkers must register on the night and sign themselves back in at the end of the walk, so we can confirm everyone has returned safely.

There is a warm up at 8.45pm, in front of the pier and this is led by Jas of JasFit, she then leads the walk.

Fundraising for this event is highly recommended, to help us reach our £15,000 target. You will each receive a sponsorship form for the walk or please visit https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/moonlightandmemorieswalk2019 to sign up to fundraise online. You can also raise funds for the Hospice in a variety of fun ways such as a cake sale, a mufti day at work or even by selling kisses!

Did you know the Hospice needs to raise over £12,000 every day to continue to provide our services to the local community?

*Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Please read the FAQ's below and the Terms and Conditions for full details.

FAQs

Is this a race?

This is not a race. You can walk as fast or as slow as you would like. We have a leader of the walk, who we ask everyone to remain behind, so no one gets lost and we also have a sweeper, who will always remain behind the last person of the walk.

Is the Moonlight and Memories Walk timed?

No, take it at your own pace and make the most of the experience. We suggest self-timing for anyone desiring a finish time.

Can children take part?

Absolutely! This is a family event. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times. (Please refer to the event Terms and Conditions).

Do I have to raise sponsorship?

Fundraising for this event is highly recommended and each participant will receive a sponsorship form. If you would prefer to gain sponsorship online, please see https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/moonlightandmemorieswalk2019 for our Moonlight and Memories Walk campaign page. You can sign up to become part of the campaign and help us to reach our £15,000 target. Please note your entry fee only covers the cost of materials and admin for this event.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, dogs are more than welcome on the walk, although please keep them on a lead. The White Rock Hotel is also dog friendly.

What should I wear and will it get ruined?

All participants are provided with a Moonlight and Memories t-shirt* however, if you choose not to wear this you won't be excluded from the walk. The event doesn't start until 9pm, so it can get chilly. Please make sure you dress appropriately. Trainers or walking shoes are highly recommened for this event. 10k is quite a distance, so clothing and footwear should be pratical and comfortable.

*While stocks last. Please note if you do not recieve a Moonlight and Memories Walk t-shirt, you will recieve a 'Supporting St Michael's Hospice' t-shirt instead.

Will you have changing rooms or storage?

No, please arrive with limited personal belongings. Any personal items will need to be taken on the walk with you.

Are tickets transferable or refundable?

Tickets for this event are non-transferable and non-refundable.

How will I collect my t-shirt and memory ribbon?

All t-shirts and ribbons will be available to collect from the Hospice Reception between Monday 3rd June - Thursday 13th June. Please note the Hospice Reception is open Monday - Sunday, 8.30am - 8pm. Please provide the receptionist with your name and they will locate your items.

Can I collect someone else's t-shirt and ribbon?

Yes you can, please also provide the receptionist with their name when collecting items.

What happens if i am unable to collect my t-shirt in the above allocated times and dates?

All uncollected t-shirt's will be available to collect at The White Rock Hotel on the night of the event from 8pm.

What pen should I use to write on the ribbon?

Permanent markers and Sharpies bleed on this material. It is recommended to use a biro.

Where is the memory wall located?

The memory wall will be at the gates of Hastings Pier.

How long will my ribbon remain on the memory wall?

We would like to keep the memory ribbons up for 4 weeks after the event. If you would like to keep your ribbon, please take it at the end of the event, as we won't be able to give them back after this point.

My question hasn’t been answered here, what do I do?

Please email fundraising@stmichaelshospice.com or call 01424 456396.
