Event description

Description

Join the University of Birmingham Rainbow Network to celebrate Black History Month and Stonewall Season with this screening of Oscar-winning film Moonlight.

"Stories of LGBT people of colour have been largely ignored in film or at least relegated to the sidelines. But writer/director Barry Jenkins’ astonishing film “Moonlight” (2016), is both proudly black and refreshingly queer. It’s a thrilling, deeply necessary work that opens up a much-needed and rarely approached on-screen conversation about the nature of gay masculinity. Told in three periods, the film chronicles childhood, adolescence and burgeoning adulthood of a young, African-American, gay man growing up in America." (Benjamin Lee, The Guardian, September 2016).

Light refreshments will be provided.
