Overview

Join us for a workshop with More in Common to understand the seven British segments based on Jonathan Haidt's Moral Foundations theory

At Aid Alliance we love to explore having couragous conversations, including some of the following questions:

  • Have you ever been bewildered by something a family member has said?
  • Blown away by how someone close to you could believe something that feels so distant?
  • Struggled to understand how someone developed their political beliefs

In this workshop, More In Common will introduce the seven British segments based on Jonathan Haidt's Moral Foundations theory, and apply this segmentation to the various political challenges of foreign aid, refugees and the climate crisis - to discuss how to best meet people where they are, and connect with them on a deeper value base. The segmentation help us to understand the deep motivating factors and values which drive us all.

More in Common is a non-profit researchers established in the wake of the murder of Joe Cox. Borne from her maiden speech in the houses of parliament, More in Common strives to improve social cohesion in the UK through better understanding the values and morals which shape our political positions. Through the use of the segmentation, we can better map and understand the undercurrents of social psychology which shape our politics today.

Andrew, Research Associate at More in Common, will be leading the session. Having worked for various food charities, he specialises in environmental issues, food and food poverty in the UK, currently working across topics applying public attitudes research to a variety of topics. Believing that at the heart of it, better communication and understanding will help amplify democracy and community cohesion.

Once registered a survey will be sent to see which segment you are currently in.
