Dolen Cymru Lesotho and SSAP invite you to an event with the National University of Lesotho discussing the links between Wales, Lesotho, and Environmental Justice.

Celebrating the 40 year link between Wales and Lesotho through Dolen Cymru Lesotho, join us to learn about the formation of Lesotho and how politics and conflict shaped the land and its use. Understand how that impacts life in Lesotho today, and what parallels there are with Wales’s history. Then join us to discuss:

- What are the benefits and challenges of teaching young people in Wales about historic and current land and environmental issues in Lesotho?

- What are the benefits and challenges of teaching young people in Lesotho about historic and current land and environmental issues in Wales?

Celebrating their 40th year, Dolen Cymru Lesotho has been working with the National University of Lesotho on a project deepening our shared understanding of the links, similarities, and differences between Wales and Lesotho.

Event Partners:

SSAP (Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel) was formed in 2009 when a number of African diaspora groups in Wales met to consider how they might collectively advance their common interest in local issues affecting African communities in Wales and Africa. They apply their lived experience, skills, capacity, and knowledge found within Welsh African diaspora communities.

Dolen Cymru Lesotho was formed in 1985 and stands in solidarity with professionals, communities, and organisations in Wales and the southern African country of Lesotho. We do this to promote acts and attitudes of solidarity by supporting existing Basotho and Welsh organisations and partnerships which encourage bi-lateral learning and advances global citizenship.

Godfrey Hove is an economic and socio-environmental historian whose research covers the economic, environmental, and agrarian histories of Southern Africa and the political economy of development from a historical perspective. A Senior Lecturer at the National University of Lesotho with a Ph.D. in History from Stellenbosch University, an M.A. in African Economic History, and a B.A Honours in Economic History, from the University of Zimbabwe. Interests include Environmental History, Local Knowledge, and Science in Climate Action.

Sub-Sahara Advisory Panel (SSAP)

SSAP was formed in 2009 when a number of African diaspora groups in Wales met to consider how they might collectively advance their common interest in International Development. The organisation seeks to utilise skills, capacity and knowledge found within Welsh African diaspora communities for the benefit of all. This includes giving advice on how to deliver effective international development interventions by contributing a sound understanding of cultures and the social economic realities of everyday life in Sub Saharan countries. SSAP is a member of the Hub Cymru Africa partnership.
