Event description
We're inviting you to take part in the Morecambe Bay walk to raise funds for Halton Haven Hospice .

About this Event

We're inviting you to take part in the Morecambe Bay walk and to raise funds for Halton Haven Hospice. This is your opportunity to take part in the iconic cross Bay walk with the Queen’s Guide to the Sands Michael Wilson. Michael is a local fisherman from Flookburgh, as were his ancestors before him. He has also worked with the previous Guide Cedric Robinson MBE over time and understands the movements of the channels in Morecambe Bay, where he has lived all his life. This walk will be meticulously planned and Michael will read the route using laurel markers placed before the big day. People have walked across the sands of Morecambe Bay for hundreds of years. Before the arrival of the railway it was the main route to and from the Furness peninsula.

Crossing Morecambe Bay is an unforgettable experience which can only be undertaken with an experienced guide. The walk is internationally known and varies depending on the route taken on the day. It starts at the pretty and picturesque promenade of Arnside and takes approximately 3-4 hours. The route affords plenty of panoramic views of the surrounding Lakeland Hills and those of Lancashire and Yorkshire. The walk covers 8 – 8.5 miles with the first 1.5 miles along the beach covering rocky ground, paths and roads and then moves onto the sands at White Creek. During the walk you will cross the River Kent channel and you will get wet! Family, friends, children, dogs (on a short lead not an extending one please) and groups are all welcome.

Cost:

  • Adults & Young People 16+ £15
  • Children aged 8 - 16 £10
  • Dogs £5
