Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8:40, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.
As always admission is free.
Pianist Anson Tang has captivated audiences with his deeply emotional performances. Overcoming challenges related to his physical condition, he became a scholar under the Lee Hysan Foundation and graduated from the prestigious Royal College of Music in London in 2024. Anson is the first wheelchair user to graduate from the college's keyboard faculty, where he studied under Professor Nigel Clayton. He has also been generously supported by Talent Unlimited since 2023.
Anson has performed internationally across Europe, Asia, and America. Making his debut in 2019, he has since collaborated as a soloist with esteemed orchestras, including the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Asian Chamber Orchestra. In 2024, he performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., marking a major milestone in his career.
Frequently invited to public events, Anson has participated in several music and arts festivals. Highlights include the SPARK Festival in 2021 organized by the British Council Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Museum of Art’s "City Dress Up: Blossoming Stairs" event, and the Head On Photo Festival in 2022 at the Royal College of Music. In addition to his solo work, Anson has collaborated with renowned musicians such as violinist Midori Gotō and Hong Kong pianist Colleen Lee.
Anson has achieved remarkable success in local and international competitions. Notably, he won the celebrated VSA International Young Soloists Award in 2023 and performed at the celebratory concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. In the same year, he received a special mention in the Birmingham International Music Competition and recently won third place in the Watford International Piano Competition.
He is also actively involved in community music projects, including a church recital series in London and the Friends Music Project at the Royal London Hospital.
