About this event

If you are no longer able to attend a course, we may be able to refund the course cost up to 7 days before the course start date. We will retain up to 10% of the payment to cover costs incurred by us.
We reserve the right for refunds to be issued by cheque.

This course is for:
This workshop is for beginners and those with previous mosaic making experience. You will use broken china and jewellery to make a stunning mosaic inspired by summer flowers or other natural forms.
You will learn:

• How to turn an idea into a mosaic design
• How to make the best use of the materials you have got
• Use of cutting tiles and mosaic nippers
• How to attach mosaic pieces to your item
• Cleaning and grouting
There will be mosaic examples and photos provided for inspiration. At the end of the course you will have a mosaiced item to take home, though you may need to grout it at home once it has dried. Full instructions will be given.
There are no exams or formal assessments. There will be chance to ask questions and put what you have learned into practice. Your tutor will give you individual feedback during the course and you will be able to self-assess.
Work outside of sessions:
This is not required, though we hope you will want to put what you have learned into practice.
Additional costs and what to prepare:
You will need to bring:
• An item to mosaic such as a mirror or picture frame with a plain wide wooden frame, a small tray or a piece of board or mdf (no bigger that 30 - 40cm). If you are unsure if an item is suitable, please ask to speak to the tutor
• A selection of broken or unwanted crockery in a range of colours
• Any glass or ceramic beads from broken jewellery you may have (optional)
• Any leftover mosaic or other tiles from home decorating work (optional)
Please wear old clothes or a shirt or apron as you may get messy. You will also need to bring lunch and drinks with you or be prepared to pop out and get some from nearby shops.
How to access your course:
This is a classroom-based course with Covid safety precautions in place. This course may be subject to change depending on the current government guidelines. An email with joining details will be sent within 3 working days of the start date of the course.
Progression from this course:
You may wish to progress to another art or craft course workshop such as botanical illustration, stained glass or pottery. Discuss your next steps with your tutor or centre staff.

Course fees explained
Some of our courses are free of charge. Others have a full fee and a lower ‘concessions’ rate for those on certain benefits. This may vary from course to course so please ask when enquiring about a particular course. For many of our learning for leisure courses we use three different fee bands:
Fee A: Full fee
Fee B: Derbyshire Gold cards holders
Fee C: Concessions for those on certain benefits/allowances – details are on our How to fund your learning page.
There may be additional costs on some courses for materials please ask for details.
If selecting one of the reduced rates, you will be asked to show proof of entitlement when attending course.
Booking:
A booking fee is charged by Eventbrite for each booking, this is retained by Eventbrite and included in the advertised fee. Derbyshire Adult Community Education Service receive the course fee.
