NOVEMBER DATES, Mosaic art with Anne CARDWELL

Make something fantastic for your house and garden, indulge yourself in a world of fabulous world of colour and iridescent shine. I am an established artist and designer and have been teaching mosaic since 2005.

Please note: I usually run classes every Friday, with dates published by term, but I am having to post dates at fairly late notice.

For October dates click here..

For December dates click here

Book your place by clicking on the green box, 'tickets' - scroll to select the dates that suit, putting them in your 'basket' to purchase. Please contact me if classes appear full, I sometimes have cancellations.

Morning courses cost £28 for the session (9.30am - 1pm) (15 minute tidy up).
It may be possible to extend your day intil 2.30pm (plus 15 minute tidy up) for an extra £10. There no need to book for the afternoon session but a minimum of 3 people is required, indicate your intent to come by email and pay the money on the day if the session runs. I will let you know as soon as I have enough participants.

Tea and coffee is as an important a ritual as the mosaic making, along with artwork there is also lots of laughter and chat!! Everyone works at their own pace on their own projects, students can join the class at any stage of the term. The classes are relaxed, creative and friendly, open to any ability.

Materials are extra, approx £22/25 for an A4 mosaic, including base, adhesive and grout and approx £40/45 for A3, pay for this at the class, cash or cheque. All work must be grouted at home, I cannot do this at this studio, but please don’t worry, this is easy and advice and everything you need will be supplied.

The studio accommodates 8 people, entry via a few steps. There is plenty of parking, there are excellent cafes a short drive away, a pub across the road and Aldi is the nearest supermarket, a few miles away on the edge of Saffron Walden. It is probably more convenient to bring your own pack lunch if you are staying for a full day course.

15 minutes is allowed at the end of each session to tidy up, sweep up and help me to return items to storage. Anything you are working on must be taken home and brought back the following session, as I have no storage for work, sorry.

NEW TO MY CLASSES
For beginners it is essential to book at least three classes to have a good chance of completing a project.

It is best to have an open mind about finishing off your work at home, as it is not always practical to time projects to the exact hours you might attend.

The tiles needed to complete your work will be provided. If you continue to work at home the suppliers you need will be provided (The Craft Kit and Mosaictraderuk, Mosaic Workshop). I will teach you cutting and laying your tiles, what to stick them onto and what to stick with. Some dexterity is required, cutting with nippers needs reasonable strength, but easily achievable by most people.

Being able to draw brilliantly is not a prerequisite but a lively imagination and an enjoyment and appreciation of colour and texture will definitely help. I have some books and samples to help you, but please bring along your reference. At this time the internet is not available at the studio, so do some research and print out anything you need. Don’t worry about drawing out your ideas in much detail, simple lines suffice. I make hand made scrabble sized ceramic lettering, great for personalising your work and unique to my classes!

BASES. What to stick your work to: MDF is suitable for working indoors and I supply this at 12mm thick in a limited range of sizes, A4 and A3, and some square bases in similar sizes. To work outdoors you need something waterproof, like metal, frost proof tiles, a pot (sealed or frostproof), a small paving slab, glass, perspex.... I have some pieces of slate and perspex for outdoors in a limited range of fairly small sizes, but you may need to think about sourcing something yourself. Due to limited storage I no longer have any marine ply, or the various pots, candle holders etc that I used to conjure up for projects - please bring your own - visit homeware stores, car boot sales (also good for china plates to break up), garden centres and so on. I cannot accommodate large projects like tables for example - mosaic is heavy to handle so best to learn the techniques with me and complete larger items at home.

There is a charge of up front of £25 towards your materials, please bring this on your first session. I now only supply the italian glass tiles, as opposed to the chinese glass tiles, which are much inferior even if much cheaper! I keep a small amount of many colours and styles, for larger projects it is quite possible you will need to order some additional tiles in the particular colours you need.

I hope you will join our classes, come along and find your creative soul!

Courses will be run when viable numbers are reached.

Email to enquire about anything at all, makingmosaics@me.com or call 07515 684088, speak to ANNE

If you are staying all day, please bring a pack lunch. An apron if you need one - your glasses! (Googles provided).

I have been been designing since graduating in Graphic Design from Kingston University in 1986 and turned my illustrative hand to mosaic in 2005, I love sharing my ideas with others and helping you realise your projects.

Please note regretfully I cannot be flexible with date changes etc a weeks notice is requested.

Remember, to give a realistic chance of completing a small project it is preferrable you book at least 3 sessions, if there is no availability showing please contact me - sometimes I have cancellations. I keep a waiting list.
