Come and make a mosaic for the international Hanging by a Thread - Mosaics For Afghan Women project
About this event
Hanging by a Thread is an international project where mosaicists from all countries are invited to draw inspiration from the colours, patterns, and textures of beautiful traditional Afghan dresses to create a small mosaic (25x10cm). These mosaics will be combined to create a long scarf to honour Afghan culture.
There are already nearly 1000 contributions to this project and the deadline for mosaics to be received is 1st July. We are holding this make-along event to encourage anyone who has not yet made their mosaic to set aside some time to do so.
Tamara Froud, BAMM President and the UK co-ordinator for the project, will be leading this make-along event. Each mosaic must be made directly on mesh, using mainly glass, stuck down with tile adhesive. Follow her on instagram for more updates. https://www.instagram.com/mosaicallsorts
Please note that while everyone is welcome to attend this event, there is a very tight deadline for receiving work to the UK - 1st July.
What you'll need:
- A piece of alkaline resistant fibreglass mesh, approx 15x30cm (this will allow you to make your mosaic to the required 25x10cm with a small border of mesh round the edge)
- A piece of thick cardboard/or other solid base.
- A piece of plastic to go between the cardboard and the mesh
- Your mosaic design drawn out on the mesh (or on paper if you are using transparent plastic)
- Tile adhesive
- Glass tiles
