Event description

Description

"The loss of the daughter to the mother, the mother to the daughter, is the essential female tragedy." -- Adrienne Rich

Ask any woman who has lost her mother about how the event has shaped her, and she will tell you a story of sadness and survival, of trials and triumphs. Often, she will tell you it feels as if a part of her was left behind. Invariably, she will tell you she has never "gotten over" the loss, but instead has learned how to carry it -- and its echoes -- forward.

This April, for the first time in the UK, more than 60 women will come together to acknowledge and discuss this life-altering event. Styled on previous events in the US, the one-time event features experts in the field of mother loss for an afternoon of lectures, exercises, and discussion.

Presenters thus far include:

Hope Edelman, MA, author of the international bestseller Motherless Daughters
Mandy Gosling, MA, Dip. Psych, psychotherapist specializing in loss and grief
Jenni Thomas, OBE, founder of The Child Bereavement Trust (now Child Bereavement UK)

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a gathering of women who share similar histories and stories. Members of Motherless Daughters groups throughout the UK are invited to attend, as is any woman who has lost her mother. While mother loss at all ages will be discussed, the afternoon's main emphasis will be on early mother loss (childhood through young adulthood). Light refreshments will be served.

** Please note, participants much be age 16 or older to attend this event.
