Online Industry Insiders Q&A exploring working in Motion Graphics and Titles. Login to hear award-winning motion designer and design director, Hazel Baird discussing their work and creative process and sharing insights and advice on developing a successful career.

Hazel is design director at acclaimed US company, Elastic - renowned for its iconic opening title sequences for shows such as Game of Thrones. Previously they worked with companies including the BBC, Nickelodeon, Sony Computer Entertainment, MTV, Cartoon Network, ITV Creative, and 4Creative.

Hazel has contributed to title sequences for film and TV series including The Morning Show and Murder Bot plus video game, Call of Duty: Black Ops and graphics packages for the 89th Academy Awards (Oscars). Their work on the documentary WWII From Space (2013) won a News & Documentary Emmy Award for Outstanding Graphic Design & Art Direction and a Royal Television Society Award for Best Graphic Design Program Content.

Originally from Ayr in Scotland, Hazel lived in London for 20 years, before relocating to California in 2015 and joining Elastic. They have a BA in Graphic Design and have worked as a freelance art director as well as in-house for various companies.

Hazel will be in conversation with designer and NFTS Motion Graphics and Titles tutor, Rosie Holtom. Rosie is a Motion Designer and Director with over 15 years’ experience. Clients she’s worked with include Discovery Channel, UKTV and E4, and charities such as Save the Children. She is also a photographer, and is a regular tutor on the NFTS Motion Graphics and Titles MA.

The session will be hosted by NFTS Head of Motion Graphics and Titles, Hugo Hansell. Hugo has designed and created brand identities for film and TV companies and organisations including BBC Film, Women in Film and TV, Focus Features, the BFI, Protagonist Pictures and the British Board of Film Classification, as well as numerous film design projects. He is the course leader for the NFTS Motion Graphics and Titles MA.
