Event description

Description

Event Overview:

Motivational Interviewing (MI) uses a guiding style to engage with patients, clarify their strengths and aspirations, evoke their own motivations for change, and promote autonomy of decision making.

What will attendees learn at this event / workshop?

There are differing approaches to the wording of the stages involved in MI but all focus on the basic premise of:

  • resisting the urge to offer solutions
  • understanding where the individual is in relation to awareness of their condition/ treatment options
  • listening to the individual’s expressed opinions and thoughts, and then
  • encouraging engagement to support whatever next steps need to be made to move them into a better position as understood by them- not the health professional.
