The Mount Snowdon Challenge

Join Shelter on Saturday 29 June 2024 to take on one of the UK's most popular mountains and defend the right to a safe home.

The registration fee for the event includes transportation by coach from Birmingham to Snowdonia and back, allowing you to rest ready for our early start and then relax on the journey home after we complete the challenge.

We'll be joined throughout the climb by first-aid certified mountain leaders who will do all the navigating, leaving you free to immerse yourself in this incredible experience and enjoy your journey up 3,560ft to the summit.

Standing tall over the village of Llanberis, Snowdon is a part of a close-knit family of jagged peaks and can offer views of Snowdonia, Anglesey, Pembrokeshire and Ireland.

There is limited availability so sign up quick to avoid disappointment, and get ready to fundraise with us whilst experiencing those breath-taking views!

Registration fee: £40 per person

Fundraising target: £300 per person

Once you have registered for this challenge, you will receive an email from Shelter's Community Fundraising Team, to advise how to set up a fundraising page and with more details about the event.

You can also buy a Shelter t-shirt as an add-on for £5, or once you hit £100 on your fundraising page, we will send you one out!

Frequently asked questions

What clothing/equipment will I need?

We will send out a full kit list ahead of the event, but please ensure you have comfortable footwear and suitable clothing.

Will there be food and drink available to purchase?

When we arrive at Snowdonia, the nearby cafes will be closed. There is however a Halfway House on the path we are walking, that sells snacks and hot and cold drinks. Hafod Eryri, the summit building, will also have sandwiches, snacks and hot and cold drinks available.

Shall we bring food and drink?

Please ensure you have adequate snacks and water (2 litres) to keep fuelled for the day. Think high-energy and carbohydrates—such as sandwiches, nuts, dried fruit, malt loaf, flapjacks, and granola bars, that are easy to carry.

Will there be toilets on the route?

There are public toilets at the start of the route, and toilets available at Hafod Eryri, the summit building.

How long will it take?

The average time that the walk takes is between 7-8 hours, including a break at the summit.

How high is Snowdonia?

The total ascent is 3,560ft.

How do I gain sponsorship?

Begin by setting up a Just Giving Page so you can accept online donations. You can do this by visiting https://www.justgiving.com/. If you would like advice and support for fundraising, please contact fiona_conn@shelter.org.uk.

What will we do if the weather is bad?

We endeavour to continue the walk, so be prepared for all weather! Nevertheless, if we deem the weather to be dangerous, we will postpone the event.

Can children join our walk?

The event is 18+ due to health and safety reasons, so please do not sign up if you are under 18.
