Mountain Biking Across the Himalayas with Max Glaskin
Event Information
Description
Max Glaskin
Max writes about cycling and science. He's the author of Cycling Science(published in the UK by Frances Lincoln) and contributes to a peloton of cycling magazines. He's also written extensively about science and technology for New Scientist, the Sunday Times, MIT Tech Review, Discovery, Reader's Digest etc., about things from nanotechnology to giant airships. Once upon a time he presented a BBC TV series about the technology of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. He's only midly ashamed to admit that he's danced a bicycle ballet for HM Queen Elizabeth II.
In his impetuous youth, he rode the first mountain bike over the Greater Himalaya in 1986 and returned alive to co-found the national Mountain Bike Club, including organising the national MTB championships for five years, and it's this aspect of Max's cycling life that he will be concentrating on tonight. Expect a fascinating tale of bicycles, travel, scenery, and the utterly unexpected...
This event is supported by the University of Chester, Cheshire West and Chester Council, and iTravelSmart.

FAQs
Do I have to be a student or member of staff, or is there an age limit to come to the talk?
All who are interested are welcome; you don't have to be a member or staff or student at the University of Chester to attend, and children are very welcome (especially if they like bikes, or mountains, or both). Tickets are free, but we need you to book in advance so that we can be sure we have enough space!
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
Limited car parking is available on campus, and there are also several covered cycle parks.
Parkgate Road Campus is 20 minutes' walk from Chester Railway Station, and a taxi will cost approximately £5. A bus service runs at regular intervals between the Railway Station and Chester City Centre. Our Parkgate Road Campus is only ten minutes' walk from the city centre.
However you arrive, security staff will be happy to direct you to the right corner of the campus.
