Event description

Description

Comte, Gruyere, Beaufort, Vacherin, Reblochon, Tomme are some of the worlds most iconic and consistenly delicious cheeses. The one thing they all have in common is that they are all made with milk from animals/cows grazed at altitude. We are talking about 1000+ metres, just below the snow line where the air is clean and pasture is pristine and diverse.

At this insite into mountain cheeses we explore and compare familiar and rare styles with a focus on cooked curd recipes. We will look at everything from production styles to protection status, caves and cathedrals. From the 2kg Tomme to the 40kg Comte the traditions and history of these cheeses makes for a fascinating and mouth-watering story.

This tasting will substitute as a light meal and include 6-10 cheeses, bread biscuits and accompanaments. To compliment the cheese, a fascinating range of wines from the Savoie and surrounding regions will be provided. selected by us from Les Caves de Pyrene. As alcohol is served all attendees must be over 18.

London Cheesemongers was created by a love of Gruyere and other cooked curd style cheeses. After 7 years indulging his passion for traditional cheese production and styles with Neal's Yard Dairy, Jared Wybrow founded London Cheesemongers after purchasing 5 whole Gruyere (nearly 200kg) on a whim and the rest they say is history. Jared continues to introduce and educate himself and his guests to the romantic intricasies of cheeses produced using the age old methods that in some cases haven't changed for hundreds of years. His passion matches his stature which makes for a captivating experience.
