Event description
Learn the skills to be safe in the mountains this summer, and the confidence to plan your own adventures.

About this Event

Our 2 day Mountain Skills courses are personal skills courses, accredited by Mountain Training England, that will give you the skills and confidence to plan and follow your own walks across the fells and mountains.

This course is designed for walkers who want to move their walking from valleys and hills to the fells and mountains.

Push yourself to walk on steeper, remoter or more mountainous terrain as you’re introduced to the new factors to consider when walking on British and Irish mountains.

Covering everything from pace and nutrition, to clothing systems and weather and navigation. You will complete this course and have the basic skills you need to feel safer walking in mountainous terrain where you might be further from the path, and in more unpredictable conditions. The rewards of pushing yourself further and knowing you have the skills are immense.

This course covers the Mountain Training Mountain Skills syllabus, which includes:

- Improve your navigation skills

- Gain confidence in the hills & mountains

- Deal with steep and rocky ground

- Plan safe routes and understand mountain weather

- Know what to do when the mist comes down

- Know what clothing and kit to take

- Enjoy rewarding, inspirational and exhilarating mountain days

Experience Required:

You will gain more from this course if you have already done some hillwalking and have some experience being out on the hills in the UK.

You should be able to walk in the region of six to eight miles for up to six hours each day on rough terrain, but we know everyones abilities are different and we will tailor the course to the needs of those attending.

What you need to know:

Full kit list will be provided with joining instructions and a course pack provided. We will provide all the maps you need.

As this course is run in North Wales the cost includes accomodation for 2 nights at Ty Powdr, the club hut for the Karabiner Mountaineering Club. This is dormitory style accomodation, so you will need to bring a sleeping bag with you, as well as food for the weekend.

We will begin the course on the Friday night with a welcome talk, and then we will spend 2 days outdoors looking at skills development as we get off the beaten track in the Snowdonia National Park.

Tinkadventures is a registered provider of the Mountain Training Hill and Mountain Skills courses and our tutors are accredited by Mountain Training and are all qualified mountain leaders.
