Description

The Mourne Mountains offer some of Ireland’s most stunning walks. These designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty not only offer a high diversity of flora and fauna but also a wealth of heritage, myths and legends.

The Mourne International Walking Festival is an award-winning 3-day Walking and Hiking Festival, waking place from the 28th-30thJune. The 2019 Festival is based in the picturesque seaside town of Newcastle, County Down in Northern Ireland.The walks and hikes will take place around and through the stunning Mourne Mountains.

While you may register on the day, we would request that you make your booking online via this page. Pre-registration not only offers you exclusive discounts, but also allows us to order the correct number of buses.

Online ticket fees:

1 Day Ticket - £8/€10
2 Day Ticket - £15/€18
3 Day Ticket - £18/€20

Online entry will close on Wednesday 26th June 2019 at 18:00.

Please note:
Entry to hikes is on a first come first serve basis.
On-day entry ticket prices are double the price of online entry.
No Euro coins can be accepted.
No refunds will be given.
Children under 16 are FREE - Must be accompanied by an adult on a 1 adult 2 childen ratio.

The fee for each individual walk includes an administration charge, costs of staffing/leaders, and equipment and transport where provided. You will also receive a gift on completion of you walk.




Life & Sole

The highlight of the weekend is ‘Life & Sole’ on Saturday 29th June, held in Avoca Hotel. Entry to Life & Sole is £12/€15.
Please note a limited number of tickets are available and pre-booking is advisable.

Friday 28thJune

Walk 1 – 15km Mourne Way

Newcastle Centre, bus to Ott Car Park, following Mourne Way to Newcastle Centre.

Saturday 29thJune

Walk 2 - 10km Road/ Track Walk

Newcastle Centre, Promenade, Castle Park, Island Park, Tipperary Wood, Tullybrannigan, Tollymore Forest Park, Wild Forest Lane, Tollymore Road, Bryansford Road, Main Street, Promenade, Newcastle Centre.

Walk 3 - 20km Road/ Track Walk

Newcastle Centre, Promenade, Castle Park, Island Park, Tipperary Wood, Tullybrannigan, Tollymore Forest (Mountain Trail) Wild Forest Lane, Tollymore Road, Bryansford Road, Main Street, Promenade, Newcastle Centre.

Walk 4 – 13km Mountain Ramble (Strenuous)

Newcastle Centre, bus to Happy Valley, path to Hare’s Gap contouring Slieve Bearnagh to the Brandy Pad, Glen River Path, Donard Park, Newcastle Centre.

Walk 5 – 12km Mountain Hike (Very Strenuous)

Newcastle Centre, bus to Ott Car Park, track to summit of Doan, summit of Ben Crom, summit of Slieve Bearnagh, Hare’s Gap, To Brandy Pad,Glen River Path,Donard Park, Newcastle Centre.


Sunday 30thJune

Walk 6 - 12km Road/ Track Walk

Newcastle Centre, bus to Ardilea, Dundrum Coastal Path, Dundrum, Dundrum Castle, Dam Lane, Keel Point, Murlough Nature Reserve, Newcastle Beach, Promenade, Newcastle Centre.


Walk 7 - 20km Road/ Track Walk

Newcastle Centre, Promenade, Newcastle Harbour, Granite Trail, Thomas Quarry, Drinnahilly Mast, (Tunnel Vent), Shepherds lodge, Newcastle Promenade,

Newcastle Centre.

Walk 8 – 15km Mountain Ramble (Strenuous)

Newcastle Centre, bus to Carrick Little car park, follow path adjacent to Annalong Wood, Annalong Valley, Brandy Pad, Donard /Commedagh Col, Glen River Path, Donard Park, Newcastle Centre.


Walk 9 – 10.5km Mountain Hike (Very Strenuous)

Newcastle Centre, Donard Park, Glen River Path, Slieve Donard Summit, Glen River Path, Donard Park, Newcastle Centre.
