Mousehold Heath Earth Heritage Walk, Norwich
Sat 22 October 2016, 14:00 – 17:00 BST
Take time out to explore the Earth heritage of Mousehold Heath, in the company of geologist Tim Holt-Wilson. We shall be zig-zagging around 18 points of interest relating to the Heath's geological story. There are glacial & periglacial deposits and landforms on a bedrock of Chalk and Crag. We shall explore aspects of this environmental history, and visit a Neanderthal findspot. We shall see how the landscape has been shaped by historic extractive industries as well as the Ice Age, and how it provides habitat for heathland wildlife.
Come prepared for a two hour-walk over approx two miles. There will some slopes to negotiate. There may be adverse weather to deal with.
Visit Norwich City Council's 'Mousehold Heath Earth Heritage Trail' web pages for a downloadable leaflet and more information about the sites we shall visit.
