Do you work with, or care for, someone who is a sensory seeker?
Or, are you someone who is a sensory seeker?
This session is for you!
Many of the items labelled safe for age 3+ are labelled that way because typically developing children stop putting things in their mouths at that age. Safety regulations for items 0-3 and 3+ are very different, and many items labelled 3+ are not safe to be in or around mouth.
We know that many older children and also adults use mouthing and chewing as a tool to help them regulate, or as a sensory ‘stim’. We understand why this is important.
In this workshop, you can learn how to check that the toys or other objects being used for ‘stimming’ are as safe as possible. You will also learn how to respond to choking incidents and hear stories about real people affected by this.
In this project, we are also creating a set of resources to send to sensory seekers and their families and carers. But we need your help. Join our session and learn more about sensory seeking safety. You can also choose to share your own story, and help us to ensure that our set of materials will help a wide range of people to stay safe whilst sensory seeking.
These sessions are free to attend and are funded by the Government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards. They are informal and are run by people with a wide range of personal and professional experiences.
