Description

Movement Medicine with Ali Young - Saying Yes

For many moons I apprenticed with the indomitable Gabrielle Roth, grandmother of Five Rhythms - now departed. One of Gabrielle’s most dearly held principles was what she described as her refusal to “serve the ego’, but rather to cultivate soul. Now, in some ways I’m not entirely convinced that polarizing the ego and the non-ego, or soul, is either particularly useful, or, even possible. The important thing about the concept for me, however, is that, underlying it, is the idea that we all have aspects of self that are closer to what we might describe as our “essence”. Indeed that these have sometimes been obscured, buried, and even wounded by social conditioning or circumstance.

I have come to believe, over many years, that source energy, which some people call God and I refer to as the web of life, is continually supporting the expression of our essence, or soul. The tricky part is how to recognize that support and then to receive the assistance that life is attempting to give to us. I would describe that as “Saying yes to Life”. As most of us are well aware life often feels more complex or challenging than that, as we become entangled in agendas, ideas and interactions that can be far from our authentic expression.

Saying Yes, inevitably involves Saying No too. As a result today’s dancing medicine will involve exploring acceptance and intention, the yin and the yang of receiving life and acting to co-create with life. On the way we’ll be hunting for their shadows that I am considering as passivity and resistance. A time to explore what you want, what you don’t, as well as how you might be undermining yourself. As ever, a musical extravaganza provides the vehicle for our journey together. Personal explorations a la funk. See you soon! Ali

FAQS - ABOUT MOVEMENT MEDICINE

What is Movement Medicine?

MOVEMENT: noun – activity, impulse, a change or development

MEDICINE: noun – in tribal societies, a curative power

MOVEMENT MEDICINE is a body based movement meditation practice that will reconnect you to the wisdom of living from the heart, the joy of knowing who you are and the satisfaction of making your unique contribution to life.

MOVEMENT MEDICINE will deepen your connection to yourself, your creativity and the
integrity and guidance of your own soul.

MOVEMENT MEDICINE is for everyone who wants to wake up, discover more of their creative potential, study shamanism in a down-to-earth way, discover ecstasy without drugs, find community in a way that doesn’t require giving up individuality and find the courage to make your own unique contribution. In short, it’s for anyone who wants to include conscious dance as a way to freedom, mindfulness, awareness and fulfilment.

Re-Connection

MOVEMENT MEDICINE is shamanic medicine for our times. It gives us direct, embodied experience of the dance of life that’s going on inside us and all round us. As a species, we face enormous challenges right now that we see as arising from the story of separation; separation between body and spirit, between individuals and nations,
between the human world and the web of life we are part of and depend upon. Simply put, Movement Medicine reconnects us, deepening our capacity for empathy and compassionate being and action.

Since pre-history, dance, song and ritual-making have played an important role in the human community. Movement Medicine is a contemporary expression of this inheritance. It marries ancient and modern wisdom, and supports you to experience the transformative power of your own potential in co-creative community.
