Sexual harassment: Moving beyond passive acceptance
About this event
The Female Film Club channels the shared experience of its members and empowers them on their journey to making a successful feature through accountability, creating a strong mindset, and learning from the best. This allows members to find their community and become part of a global movement pushing the female voice forward.
In the FFC we believe that knowledge should be shared and are excited to host this event in collaboration with Chester Abbey law firm and the Film and TV Charity.
Since the #metoo movement, more and more women have come forward to share how they have been sexually harassed in the workplace. The film industry is a hotbed of stories describing abuses of power.
Harassment is less of a taboo topic in the workplace than it once was, but there are still significant challenges to overcome in helping a culture of silence evolve into a culture of disclosure. Disclosure is on a spectrum, with legal enforcement of employment rights being at one end, and passive acceptance of harassment being at the other.
In this event you will receive advice from experts on how to best react in different situations of harassment.
We welcome:
Lara Murray is a senior partner in Chester Abbey law firm. Lara's expertise is in employment law, and she is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. Lara is an expert strategist with complimentary knowledge of human psychology and has spoken on BBC Radio on numerous occasions commenting on matters affecting vulnerable workers.
Lucy Tallon is Head of Mental Health and Wellbeing at the Film and TV Charity, which supports all those who work behind the scenes in the UK film, TV and cinema industry. Lucy's work found that bullying was one of the primary causes of poor mental health in the industry. As a result, she developed the bullying advice line and support services.
'There remains what seems like an impenetrable wall of silence around violence and we must all play a role in breaking this silence.' Reese Witherspoon
