Event description

Description

Italy has a long history of emigration. Although nowadays Italy presents itself as an immigration country, Italy remains a country with significant emigration, as confirmed by the Rapporto Italiani nel Mondo 2018 (Report on Italians living abroad).

The event offers the opportunity to reflect on different aspects of Italian emigration in the UK and worldwide. The issue of national identity and its changes in globalised migratory contexts will be addressed through discussions presented by representatives of Italian institutions and by doctoral researchers. The academic research projects exemplify the attention contemporary migration studies devote to the process of negotiation and shifting of identities and suggest the importance of studying Italian migratory history to understand and address contemporary migration.

Thanks to the dialogue with the Italian Consulate, Embassy, and Chamber of Commerce in London, this event seeks to provide local institutions food for thought and to suggest ideas for future collaborations between institutions and the academic world.
