Description

I am not just playing...I am not made to sit still....I need to move to learn.

What is the impact on young children of Retained Physical Reflexes in all areas of learning and development in the EYFS? Children are being kept in static positions for long periods of time, from car seats to buggies to high chairs. Research is now showing the impact of this as they fail to "use up" primitive reflexes that should have disappeared by 12-18months. Retaining these reflexes means that other muscle skills cannot develop and has a direct impact on children's ability to learn. What can you do if children just cannot sit still for story time? What if you find some children just crawl around and climb over things all the time. Could retained reflexes be the reason and what can you do to help them? Come and find out much more in this whole day training session.

Drawing on up to date research from around the world - this is exciting training which will explain many traits seen today in nurseries and classrooms across the world. Come and find out how to support children to develop the essential physical skills they need, and learn how to explain to parents and inspectors why children need to move SO much.

When children are BALANCING they are working hard to control their balance makes to make their core muscles strong. This means they can sit at the table properly to draw and write; or they can stand to paint or use tools at a work bench.
When children are CLIMBING they are pulling themselves up. This works their shoulders, arms, hands and fingers. If you want to develop writers, your children need to have shoulders that are strong so they can use their arms. Their hands and fingers need to be strong so they can grip a pencil or use scissors and other tools safely.

When children are CHASING - they have also made up a game with their friends and are playing it together in a cooperative way and using their imaginations - watch out, those early stories are coming together, ready for reading and writing.
They are not just running, they are EXERCISING their whole body. This will keep them fit, helping to create a positive attitude to exercise and begin a lifelong habit of looking after their body.

Book now for this 5 hour session, with lunch included. This will also give you a comprehensive set of activities and resources to take away and use in staff training. The perfect way to develop your whole team's understanding of retained primitive reflexes and physical development.

Delivered by Sandra Woolley (MEd) and Lucy Waterman (BA Hons) (trained Early Years Inspectors.)

Do you have directions and parking options for the event?

If you come along the A4 from Chippenham, go past the library on your left by the town centre traffic lights, and go straight through the traffic lights. Almost immediately there is a car park turning on your left, in between the row of houses, you will see a blue IN sign. This leads to the pay and display car park. If you miss it, go around the roundabout and back again.

Coming from Marlborough direction along the A4, go past The White Hart on your right (at the double mini-roundabout) and go straight ahead towards Chippenham. (Turn left here if coming from Melksham) Down the short hill, continue right at the roundabout. Very quickly you will see an entrance to a car park on your right in between the houses(go past the blue OUT sign and see the IN sign), If you miss it turn right at the traffic lights, turn round down there and come back. Parking cost £1.50 for three hours.

Walk out of the car park back to the A4 along the entrance lane. Cross over the road and you will see flats behind the river. Walk left (away from the traffic lights) and you will see Marden House just over a bridge. We are upstairs. Any problems ring Lucy 07869 705070
