Event Details

Moving Voices is an inspiring, varied open mic night which features poetry, stories and music... anything you can do with your voice, that will move the audience! You are welcome to share your own work, or somebody else's.

Host: Anita Foxall
Special Guest: tbc

This is a space where you can use your voice to share what Moves you, or where you can just sit comfortably and be inspired by what's on offer, there's no pressure. A relaxed, non-threatening environment, this is a great place to try something new for the first time, or if you haven't performed before. Please join us and enjoy a great evening!

If you would like to perform, please arrive between 7.00pm & 7.30pm and speak to the host when you get here. If you're coming from far afield, please let us know beforehand so that we can try to get you a guaranteed slot and your journey will be worth it!

If you do arrive late we'll try to get you in for the second half. Performers, please keep your poetry performance to 6 minutes, and musical performance to max 2 songs, so that there is time for everyone to participate.

The doors open at 7pm and the poetry and music starts at 7.30pm :)
The cafe will be serving drinks, snacks and cakey things from 7pm.

Travel information:-

We are a city centre venue and parking can be in short supply.  If you are driving, please make sure you leave plenty of time to find a space click here for a map of where the nearest parking spaces can be found.

We recommend Kings Park Road car park:

We are about 10 minutes walk from Southampton City Centre train station (head up the hill toward the Guildhall clock tower) and on the route for most city centre buses (the Unilink U1 stops virtually outside.)

Accessibility info:-

Events are generally suitable for adults, young people and older children - children must be accompanied by an adult at all times, however. Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems and songs may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!)

Most events are held on our first floor, accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner. Comfortable seating is provided.  We regret that, due to space and other constraints, we are generally unable to relocate our events to the ground floor for those who require ground level access - so sorry.

Events are open to all ages unless otherwise stated, however, please note that our mission is to provide creative activity primarily to adults, therefore most of our programme is aimed at 16 years and over.  Performances may include stronger language.
