A Crown of Thorns
Composed in 1791, Mozart's Requiem Mass in D minor needs little introduction as one of the best loved pieces in the choral repertoire. Two hundred years later, in 1991, Arvo Pärt published his Beatitudes and Pēteris Vasks his Pater Noster, both composers originating from Baltic countries. In between, Tchaikovsky wrote a delightful short piece known today as A Crown of Roses, the theme of which forms the basis for Arensky's Variations on a Theme by Tchaikovsky. All of these works form the content of this concert, accompanies by four top soloists and the Brandenburg Sinfonia.
