Frequently asked questions

Who can attend?

The day is designed for Year 5 students from primary state schools in OX4, accompanied by a teacher/responsible adult (see your school policy for staffing ratios).

Is there a cost for event?

No! The event is free.

Where is the event?

You will be hosted at one college, either St John's, St Anne's or Lincoln, for your workshops, and the lecture-demonstration will be held at Trinity College. The itinerary of your group will be sent to you after booking.

How long are the workshops?

35 minutes.

Is there a risk assessment?

Yes! Risk assessments for the day and each workshop are available and will be sent to you with your detailed itinerary once we receive your booking.

Will we be the only school group in a workshop?

A workshop accommodates up to 15 school students. This means if you bring fewer students on your group ticket, you may be joined by students from another school, so we can maximise the total number of students attending the event.

Do we need to bring anything with us? e.g. notebooks, pencil cases

Please make sure your Year 5 students (and accompanying adults) bring a packed lunch. Otherwise, everything needed for the workshops and lecture-demonstration is provided. Just come and enjoy!

Can you give more details about the workshops?

The interactive 35-minute workshops are being provided by the Mathematical, Physical and Life Sciences Division of the University of Oxford, which includes Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Sciences, Engineering, Materials Science, Mathematics, Nanotechnology, and Physics.

When will we receive our detailed itinerary for the day (college and workshops)?

The specific itinerary of your group will be shared with you once you have booked your group ticket.

Can students with SEN attend?

Yes! Please let us know in advance about particular needs so that we can ensure we have made appropriate accommodations.

How many students can attend a session?

Each group ticket is for up to 15 Year 5 students (plus accompanying adults). You can book more than one group ticket to ensure your Year 5 class/cohort can attend.

Are the Colleges accessible?

At present we cannot guarantee we can meet accessibility requirements, but we endeavour to do our best to accommodate any additional needs, so please do inform us of these.

Is there a waiting list?

Yes. We will operate a waiting list for the event. Priority will be given to schools on the waiting list from OX4.
