Mr Mangle's Musical Factory
SEN and Disabilities Seminar Series 2016/17
Mr Mangle's Magical Musical Factory - Giving young People and Children a Voice
'Mr Mangle’s Magical Music Factory’ is a software programme designed for independent use by young people with SEN that enables them to record their voice (or anything else) and turn it into something else. Not only is it a hoot to use but a pilot study across the East Midlands last year showed that when used in creative music making it can improve young people’s communication, language and literacy development and their personal, social and emotional development. This seminar will present the findings of the study, give you a chance to play with the software and offer practical ways to use it alongside associated technologies (including Soundbeam).
Mat Andasun is a multi-instrumental performer and composer who writes music for TV and film. He has been a community musician since 1993 and has specialised in music making with Early Years and SEN since 2001. During this time he has delivered five projects of regional significance funded by Youth Music, the research from which has helped shape the organisation’s policy. He recently introduced an exciting new music software programme for Early Years, Key Stages 1 & 2 and SEN called Mr Mangle’s Magical Music Factory, which turns everyday sounds into weird and wonderful story sounds. The software is central to Mat’s idea that music & sound creation can be used to transform children’s lives.
