MRC Researcher Society presents: "Turkey vs. Insect Tempura"
Event Information
About this Event
What if we had insects for Christmas day?
Eating insects, would you? Should you?
Food and agricultural waste are a substantial problem in our human food systems. Insects have the potential to be used to convert such by-products or wastes into useful and nutritious proteins that can then contribute to both human and animal food systems. But – can we overcome the ‘Yuk!’ and how might we do this….
Dr Tilly Collins, a senior academic at the Centre for Environmental Policy at Imperial College London, will give us her insights in the not anymore so futuristic idea of an “insect-based Christmas eve” which will, for sure, grab your attention! Dr Tilly Collins, has been investigating this question for a while, with her latest paper on the subject was published in a special issue of the Annals of the Entomological Society of America.
The Christmas Gala is our main event of the year. It attracts a big audience and is a great opportunity to discuss topics that are related to our research that we don't usually get the chance to get involved with.
Drinks and light bites will be provided!
