Stage 4 – Additional Workshops & CPD

(July 2025 – April 2026)

As part of the MSR Coach Award, you’ll take part in a series of additional workshops designed to deepen your coaching knowledge, build confidence, and help you progress on your coaching journey. These sessions are a vital part of the programme and offer a great chance to learn from experienced coaches, develop your own delivery style, and gain valuable feedback.

Many of our current Community Coaches—now delivering PE and games in primary schools across the Island—started out by completing this very award!

Workshop Format

During each school holiday, you’ll attend a full-day workshop that includes:

Presentations and delivery ideas from MSR coaches
Opportunities to plan and lead coaching sessions
Constructive feedback from staff and tutors
Peer idea sharing and collaboration
Observed delivery sessions with reflective feedback
A short question paper to complete at the end of the day

These workshops help reinforce key coaching principles while giving you space to practice and grow.

Workshop Schedule

You’ll be expected to take part in the following CPD sessions:

1 day during the Summer holidays
1 day at October Half Term
1 day during the Christmas holidays
1 day at February Half Term
1 day during the Easter holidays
Final Assessment Day during the Easter holidays

Workshops will cover planning, delivery, observation, reflection, and action planning. Qualified MSR coaches and assessors will be on hand to support you throughout.

Assessment & Completion Requirements

To complete the MSR Coach Award, you must attend all required sessions and meet the minimum contact hour requirements (28 Hours on MSR activities). Participants who log 50 hours of voluntary coaching will gain early access to the final presentations and question papers and can potentially complete the full award before the Easter deadline.

To successfully complete the award, each participant must:

Attend the Training Week
Complete 2x Mentoring Sessions during the summer holidays
Log at least 28 voluntary coaching hours (MSR activities)
View and complete question papers for 5 CPD workshops
Log 5 coaching observations with feedback from MSR Coaches
Complete a Final Coaching Assessment during Easter 2026, including:
A detailed session plan
Delivering the session
A reflective write-up
A short interview-style Q&A with two Sports Development Officers

What Happens Next?

Participants who successfully complete the MSR Coach Award will be eligible for paid coaching work on MSR school holiday schemes for one year. To continue beyond that, we encourage you to complete a recognised coaching qualification in the sport of your choice.
