Self-care for Massage Therapists
A day of massage, movement, body awareness, mindfulness, breathwork and restorative yoga.
How do we care for ourselves so that we can serve others?
When you work in massage, taking care of yourself is as important as taking care of your clients. Massage work is demanding, not just physically, but emotionally and intellectually, so having a good self-care regimen in place is really important if you want a long and happy career in massage. You really cannot serve others if you yourself have an empty vessel!
All to often, especially when we first start out in business, we end up giving too much of ourselves 'away' and can end up feeling physically and emotionally drained by our work. Sometimes we forget the importance of boundaries, breathwork and grounding ourselves. Therapists often suffer with aches and pains that can be the result of working too much, forgetting good 'body use' techniques and working with too much focus on the use of wrists/hands and fingers. Often we don't book massage sessions for ourselves, and don't factor in enough time where other people are able to care for us.
During this day we will explore what self-care means to us, what types of self-care serve us in our work and how we can integrate it into our daily lives. We will explore grounding, breathwork, meditation and movement such as Qi Gong, as well as giving and receiving massage and spending the afternoon nurturing ourselves through restorative yoga and guided relaxation. A great day to reflect and spend time with other therapists!
The day is free to current MTI Members, Students, Graduates and NMA Members, and £11.21 to non-members (all qualified massage therapists and bodyworkers are very welcome to join us). Everyone who attends will receive a handout and CPD certificate.
Hot drinks and biscuits will be provided. At lunch time you can bring a packed lunch or order food from the bar on site.
